Cortejo (to Rochelle)

2023

Festival Instituto Sérvulo Esmeraldo 94: Memórias Afetivas

Centro Cultural do Araripe – Largo da RFFSA – Crato, CE

Color gradients printed on fabrics are suspended in rails, remaking the work  Tumulte, exhibited at Palais d’Iéna in Paris (2022). These curtain-filters were installed inside an old train station in Crato, where they seem to not accomodate within the space as their materials cross and overfill its limits. This piece is exposed to the outdoors, therefore it moves according to the wind, just like in the works Vento (2019) in Porto Alegre and at the intervention at  Casa de Vidro de Lina Bo Bardi in São Paulo.

Cortejo happens throughout the city, connecting polls, trees, houses and people in a diffuse system. There is a denser cluster of intersections radiating out from the station, its parts are sometimes caught in the trees of the square, sometimes scattered throughout the streets of Crato. Smaller pieces of curtains are installed in the entrance of houses. Walking around Santo Cristo Square, one can find the fabrics, one after the other, glimpsing a set of uncertain extent, without fixed contours.
