Dolapdere Süiti

2026, from the series Air Temperature

Comissioned for the exhibition Work in progress, at Arter, Istanbul, Turkey

Printed fabrics, rails and metal cables

Dolapdere Suite transforms the viewer’s experience of the space by bringing the color transitions into relation with architectural surfaces. Suggesting the idea of a horizon, the color gradients take on material form when printed onto fabric and hung like curtains. Swaying gently under the effects of air currents, they interact with changing natural light throughout the day, producing a dynamic visibility and dramatic intensity in the space. Related to the bodily scale, these curtain-filters act as interface surfaces that one can pass through, move around or look through, mediating the interactions viewer establish not only with the space, but also with one another. A domestic architectural element, enlarged in scale and placed on the façade and in various public areas of a contemporary building designed for art, brings questions of harmony and dissonance. Conceived to be perceived from the surrounding buildings and the street, the large fabric surfaces enter or exit the building, traverse the space, and alter its rhythm. They sometimes follow walls, sometimes cut across them to divide space into sections, and at other times disregard existing walls altogether, becoming a kind of wall themselves.
